This weekend, Stanford 20/20 champions, the Guyana cricket team, will return to the ground where they made history this past summer to accept their championship rings from Sir Allen Stanford in an event that will include a concert and the rebroadcast of the final match.
It all starts from 6:00pm on Saturday, 25 November at the Stanford Cricket Ground and Sticky Wicket Restaurant with music from the great Chickie. The rest of the festivities get underway at 7:00pm with the rebroadcast of the exciting, nail biting final match between Guyana and Trinidad, which will be shown on the big screens on the cricket ground. Fans are welcome to pack a picnic basket and come enjoy a family evening on the grass. Drinks will be on sale from the concession stand as well.
Patrons can also view the rebroadcast inside the Sticky Wicket, which will be open on a first-come basis. The showing of the final will be followed by Sir Allen’s presentation of the rings to the team surrounded by 11 of the 14 Stanford legends. The custom-made 14-karat gold diamond rings are meant to memorialise the team’s experience at the inaugural Stanford 20/20 Tournament and provide them with yet another reward for a job well done.
Each ring has been sized for its wearer and boasts 18 diamonds representing each of the 18 other teams in the tournament. A large diamond in the middle of the ring will be the focal point of the amazing jewel, which signifies the team and its triumph.
After the ring ceremony, everyone will be treated to a free concert by soca star Rupee and Antigua’s very own Red Hot Flames. Food and drinks will be on sale at the Sticky Wicket and drinks at the Stadium. The first 200 people to both locations will receive free t-shirts.
“This is a great event for the entire family to enjoy. We hope that everyone will come out and relive the Stanford 20/20 one more time with the Guyana team. There will be fun for everyone and admission is free!” encouraged organisers.
