INVESTORS IN PEOPLE MEDIA - Investors in People Steering Committee Gets Moving
Posted: 3/3/2003

The Investors in People programme that will begin being rolled out to businesses in the Cayman Islands over the next couple of months has now formed a Steering Committee that is moving swiftly towards providing relevant support.

The programme was launched in the UK in 1991 and has since seen tremendous growth and success. It focuses on four areas within organisations, namely raising the bottom line, building new relationships, reducing hassle in day to day operations and creating new mind sets conducive to high performance.

As the name of the programme states - it is about the people. This is what the Steering Committee also focused on at their most recent meeting held on February 20th. The more than a dozen business professionals and government representatives involved in the programme have one thing in common - they are all excited about Investors in People and what it can mean for the Cayman Islands.

"We have a great Steering Committee comprising a good cross section of the community and this will ensure the programme's success," proudly stated Mr. Philip Scott of the Employment Services Centre who is project-leading Investors in People. "For businesses in Cayman to achieve the Investors in People Standard will mean a great deal for them and Cayman's future prosperity."

The Steering Committee includes Mario Ebanks from the C.I. Society of Human Resources Professionals; Wil Pineau CEO of the Chamber of Commerce; Winston Connolly from Walkers; Ina Orr an H.R. Professional; Mavis Davis; Mrs. Beulah McField from N.A.C.E.; Sheena Glasgow from the CI Civil Service Association; Colin Ross of the Government's Personnel Department; Peter Gough from the Government's Budget & Management Unit; Jenny Kaufman; Walling Whittaker, Director of Employment Relations and from the Ministry of Environment, Human Resources & Culture, Permanent Secretary Joy Basdeo.

The purpose of the Steering Committee is to monitor the progress of the Pilot Programme. The Pilot will involve a limited number of companies that will be the first in Cayman to work towards achieving this admirable Standard.

The Committee will also offer guidance and feedback to the local Project Manager, Philip Scott, and take the strategic lead in setting up a long-term delivery infrastructure for the Standard. They will ensure integration with national policies and in the long-term act as the governing body for the Investors in People programme.

"At the moment we are working on selecting the organisations that we would like to become a part of the Pilot Programme. These organisations will be a part of something that will change the way businesses and their employees operate in Cayman, all in a positive way," concluded Philip.

Any company that would like to find out more about becoming a part of the Investors in People Pilot Programme should contact Philip at 945-3114 or by Email Philip.Scott@gov.ky.
