Tips from three time Jamaican Open winner, Seymour Rose, encouragement from famous professional Christy O'Connor and driving lessons from Jamaican Pro Delroy Cambridge - sounds like a golfer's dream come true. This was the reality for 30 young golfers from all over Montego Bay on Friday when they were given a special junior clinic as part of the Digicel Jamaica Classic taking place at the Half Moon Golf Club.
"This is a big part of me, the kids coming up playing golf as I did when I was just 11 years old," said Jamaica Professional Seymour Rose, "they have a great opportunity here and I would love to see them grow in the sport. I have been impressed with what I have seen here today," Rose stated proudly.
8-year old Samuel Lawrence was thrilled by the chance to be taught by the pros, "I am excited, when I grow up I want to be like Tiger Woods," he said. The 30 children in the clinic were brought in by Super Clubs Iron Shore. "Every year we do a golf summer camp free for all the area children along with the Jamaican Golf Association. These children were given this privilege because they were the top in the group and we are very proud that they have been given this incredible opportunity," stated Super Clubs Iron Shore Manager Suzette Burgess.
The clinic was done in conjunction with the Jamaican Golf Association and great support from Digicel who are the title sponsors for the tournament. "This is what it is all about," stated Harry Smith, Digicel Marketing Director, "what a great opportunity these children have had, we are so proud to have been a part of it. This is something I am sure these children will never forget."
