CAYMAN ISLANDS MARATHON MEDIA - Runner Raises Funds for Sunrise Centre
Posted: 3/28/2005

Tammy McGregor might not have broken any world records when she ran her very first marathon recently in the Cingular Wireless Cayman Islands Marathon but in the eyes of the students and staff at the Sunrise Adult Training Centre, she is a winner.

Tammy, a West Bay resident and Cayman Airways employee, sought sponsorship for her participation in the race and donated the funds raised, CI$2000, to the Sunrise Centre, a life skills and vocational training facility for adults who are mentally and physically challenged.

“I’ve lived in West Bay for about eight years, and I’ve also worked in West Bay so it just seemed logical for me to run for a charity located in West Bay. That’s why I decided on the Sunrise Centre,” explained Tammy. “The work that is being done there is important for the entire island and I wanted to do my part to support the Centre’s efforts.”

“We are absolutely thrilled about Tammy’s donation and we will be using the money to purchase a treadmill to further expand our current physical education programme,” said Roberta Gordon, Director of the Sunrise Adult Training Centre.

The next Cayman Islands Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, 3 December 2006. For more information and 2005 race results, log on to www.CaymanIslandsMarathon.com.
