CAYMAN ISLANDS MARATHON MEDIA - Health and Fitness Expo to Be Held In December
Posted: 9/25/2003

Cayman’s first ever health and fitness expo will be held in December in connection with the 2nd Annual Cayman Islands Cadet Corps Marathon.

Scheduled for Saturday, 6 December at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort from 9:00am – 4:00pm, the event will allow local gyms and fitness centres, supermarkets, athletics stores, pharmacies and other health and fitness-related companies to display their products and services and educate the public about the importance of exercise, proper nutrition and quality health overall. Those runners who are registered for the Marathon on Sunday, 7 December will also be able to collect their registration packets at the Expo.

Event organiser Rhonda Kelly of Kelly Holding Ltd. is excited about the event. “A health and fitness expo is something that a lot of people in Cayman have wanted to do for many years,” says Rhonda. “When we started planning for the Marathon, we realized that this type of event and the race really go hand in hand and complement each other well.”

The response to the Expo has been very positive according to Rhonda and many companies and organisations have already signed on to be exhibitors. One of these is The Beauty Spa at the Hyatt Regency who will be using the event to promote an exclusive product that is available only at the Hyatt.

“We will be demonstrating our Endermologie machine at the Health and Fitness Expo,” says Javana Phillips-Broad, Spa Manager. “This is an FDA-approved technique for fighting cellulite and we want to show people how it works and the benefits of this process.”

Javana also wants to use the Expo to attract a wider range of clientele. “Residents are under the impression that the spa and its services are only for hotel guests but this is not the case at all,” says Javana. “We want residents to know that they are most welcome to the spa and, in addition, they are entitled to a 10% resident discount for any spa treatment over CI$35.”

The Hyatt will also be selling Christmas gift sets and giving short LAStone therapy massages, a relaxation technique that uses hot and cold stones.

Rhonda confirmed that both the Health Services Authority and the Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospitals would be exhibiting along with other entities such as the Department of Environmental Health and World Gym Fitness Centre.
