CAYMAN ISLANDS MARATHON - Business Community Continues to Support Cayman Marathon
Posted: 7/18/2007

Preparations are well underway for the 2007 Cayman Islands Marathon which takes place on Sunday, 2 December, and the business sector is demonstrating its strong sense of community spirit once again by supporting the long run which benefits two very worthwhile charities, the Cadet Corps and the Cancer Society.

Race organiser Kelly Holding Ltd. is heartened by the corporate community’s positive response to sponsorship of the marathon, half-marathon and 4-person relay. The event has several new backers but a number of the supporters are repeat sponsors who recognise not only the importance of encouraging health and fitness in Cayman but also the value of getting involved in an event that will promote the Cayman Islands as a sport destination.  Last year’s race attracted over 100 overseas runners, many accompanied by their families, and organisers expect even more international participants this year as a result of heavy marketing in the United States and repeat visitors.

“We absolutely cannot do this event without our sponsors!” declared Rhonda Kelly, Cayman Islands Marathon Race Director. “Every year we are inspired and humbled by the response we receive from the corporate community. They step up every year and partner with us to see our vision of 1000 people running through the streets of Cayman fulfilled. We are on our way to that goal. The event is slowly growing and we thank each sponsor for their enduring commitment to the Cayman Islands Marathon and to health and fitness.”

“We are pleased to support the Marathon again this year, and believe that the event is a great way to promote our island as well as show true corporate citizenship,” said Claudia Welds, Corporate Communications Senior Executive at Cayman National, a sponsor who has supported the race since its inception.

“Sagicor General and Sagicor Life are proud to support the Cayman Islands Marathon as we see it as our duty to support our community,” noted Mr. Ravi Kapoor, Marketing Manager for Sagicor General, first time sponsors of the event. “It is not only an important sporting event, but the stamina and endurance needed to participate is a reflection of the good health and wellness that we support in our society.”

The Cayman Islands Marathon is sponsored by Digicel, Department of Tourism, Flowers Bottled Water, Cayman Airways, Breezes By the Bay Restaurant, Cayman National, Progressive Distributors/Gatorade, Deloitte, Cayman Free Press, Sagicor, Island Companies, Audi, BioFreeze/RVC Rehab Services, , RE/MAX Cayman Islands, CUC, 106.1 KISS FM, Kirk Freeport, The Final Touch, Red Sail Sports, ESSO and Royal Bank of Canada.
