BLACK PEARL MEDIA - Pro Skater to Promote Cayman and Its Kids on TV Show
Posted: 4/5/2006

Kids in Cayman will have the opportunity to learn tricks from one of the best skateboarders around, and be featured on Fuel TV which airs in 18 million homes across the USA and hundreds of other countries in the Caribbean (including the Cayman Islands), Latin America and Europe.

Pro skater Mike Vallely will be conducting a skate camp at the Black Pearl Skate Park in Grand Harbour from the 19th to 22nd April for kids of all ages. Footage from the camp will be used in Vallely’s TV show Drive: Notes From The Wilderness, a half-hour show which chronicles the skater’s experiences on the road as he explores the people, places, and issues defining skateboarding and youth culture. In addition, Vallely will talk about the history of the Black Pearl Skate Park, his interactions with the people in Cayman, as well as other aspects of island life. One entire segment of the show will be dedicated to educating people on where Cayman is located and providing interesting facts about the islands.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Mike Vallely coming to Cayman to teach our kids and film his television show,” said Kevin Grzybouski, Black Pearl’s supervisor. This is a fantastic opportunity, not only for the Black Pearl to show the world what it has to offer as an attraction, but for us to showcase Cayman as the destination of choice for tourists, whether they are skateboarding enthusiasts or scuba divers or just looking to relax on the beach. Mike will be exploring many aspects of island life while he’s here in Cayman, and in turn millions will be tuning in to watch his adventures. The Cayman Islands will literally be in millions of living rooms!”

Fuel TV is an action sports television station. Its primary target market is the 12-25 year old age group, an audience that Grzybouski says is ideal for the Cayman Islands.

“When parents are making vacation plans, they are heavily influenced by their children because we all know that if the kids do not enjoy their vacation spot, the family will not be returning. When kids and teenagers see this TV show which promotes the beautiful Cayman Islands and all it has to offer, they are going to close the deal by persuading their parents to visit. This is a win-win situation for everyone!”

Fuel TV is offered in WestStar’s Sports and Info package and airs on Channel 138 for cable subscribers.
